It’s 3 a.m. and the asphalt is still warm—yet the ocean arrives first. The east coast of Taitung (台東) feels like an unfinished confession: salty wind on your tongue, headlights carving a brief white path before the darkness swallows it again. I took the quieter stretch in “Garulan Scenic Area” (加路兰). By day the sea looks blue. At night it turns into dark metal, reflecting only when it wants to. The wind speeds up without warning, tugging your clothes like the tide is playing games. Every ~ten steps, the sand changes texture—powder-fine softness, then hard shell fragments that click dryly underfoot. Two things pull you in. First: the “tidal pool stepping path,” where the route breathes—sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s erased. Second: the occasional ghostly blue-white glows inside the reef wall—not lights, but life flashing like misaligned shadows. Walk slow, respect the rhythm, and let the morning light pour into the pools. Then reward yourself nearby: Lu Rou Fan or a hot local soy drink. #Taitung #TaiwanTravel #NightPhotography #CoastalLife #TravelTips #NatureWonders
