AWS has upgraded Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime with a brand-new “Runtime Instances” managed EC2 execution mode—so AI agents aren’t stuck in short, serverless-like bursts anymore. Previously, AgentCore Runtime relied on lightweight micro-VMs that spin up fast and scale, great for tasks that finish in hours (up to ~8 hours). But if your agent needs to run for days—or you need serious compute like GPUs—those time limits can become a real bottleneck. With Runtime Instances, agents can run on AWS-managed EC2 instances for up to 14 days. Developers can choose allowed EC2 instance types and even select GPU-equipped options for heavy workloads like model inference, 3D rendering, simulation, and media processing. The best part? AWS handles GPU drivers—no need to bake driver setup into your agent container. Operational overhead drops too: EC2 lifecycle tasks like provisioning, patching, scaling, and stopping are handled by AgentCore. And multi-agent collaboration is smoother: multiple agents can share the same EC2 environment and files for “handoff” workflows. Not replacing the old model—both run in parallel depending on your latency/length and GPU needs. #AWS #Bedrock #AIAgents #CloudComputing #EC2 #MLOps
