People told me the sea in Taitung is “straightforward.” I got there and realized the real heartbreak is different: it won’t stop at scenery—it refuses to leave your feelings unfinished. I turned off a small, not-really-a-tourist spot road near Donghe in Taitung County. The ocean wind first nudged my back like a question, then shoved right into my collar. Salt clung to my throat so even breathing felt cut short. The sky slid from gray haze into deeper blue; light got thinner as the waves kept polishing it, until all that remained was sharp, broken sparkle hopping on the wave tops. Between rocks, the wind made a steady, almost non-annoying sound—like someone plucking a tiny string far away. The ground drank moisture; wet sand softened underfoot and then snapped back. Walking beside someone, we barely talked—but we listened to the rhythm of tides, the breathing spaces between waves. My favorite “wow” is tiny: a brief pre-high-tide water-level illusion at the rocky shore. A thin bright line holds for minutes, pulling light up like the sea is showing you a pause. #Taitung #Donghe #TaiwanTravel #OceanVibes #SlowTravel #TravelWriting
