NVIDIA just launched the Jetson Orin Nano 2, a new entry-level edge AI computing platform aimed at power- and size-sensitive products like robots, drones, and real-time vision systems. The big promise: up to 2× better real-world AI inference performance versus the previous generation—plus up to 40% lower power to achieve the same throughput. On paper, you get 78 TOPS of AI performance, 8GB of memory, and an 8-core Arm processor. But NVIDIA is careful with the wording: the “2×” claim refers to inference on actual tasks, not a simple raw “TOPS doubled” story. They’re also improving Tensor core acceleration and boosting data transfer between CPU/memory and accelerators to reduce inference bottlenecks—so models run faster and more reliably. Design-wise, it keeps the same module size for easier migration and quicker manufacturing. In practice, the standout is the 15W mode: better efficiency means longer battery life, cooler thermal design, and more room for sensors and connectivity. Support includes on-device LLMs and vision-language models like Cosmos, Nemotron, Gemma 4, and Qwen 3. Dev kit/module availability is expected in H1 2027. #EdgeAI #NVIDIA #Jetson #Robotics #ComputerVision #LLM
