Reddit just tightened the screws on third‑party scraping and automation—and the timeline is very real. According to the updated schedule, Reddit will stop supporting RSS on Nov 13. Then it moves to the Public API: starting now, access is being phased down, with no new Public API applications accepted from Oct 31. After that, Reddit will begin removing apps and permissions that haven’t been fully registered or responded to Reddit’s outreach starting Jan 12, 2027. Finally, by March 2027, Public API public access is expected to end completely. The big idea isn’t “flip a switch.” It changes how third‑party tools work. Public API lets developers run apps on their own servers and pull data externally. Reddit’s Developer Platform (Devvit) shifts execution and hosting into Reddit-managed infrastructure, so the platform controls APIs, permissions, and data—reducing abuse risk. To soften the blow, Reddit launched a $1M App Migration Program: eligible apps that successfully migrate get a $1,000 grant, plus free hosting and support. If you depended on RSS notifications, the replacement options seem limited—there’s no clear general-user alternative. This is a full move toward less automation, more control. #Reddit #APIs #DevPlatform #Automation #RSS #Devvit
